Jean-Marc Lalonde
Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development and Trade
Jean-Marc Lalonde was elected to the Ontario legislature for the riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell for the first time in 1995. He was re-elected in 1999, 2003 and 2007.
Lalonde has served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation (2003-2005), the Minister of Economic Development and Trade (2005-2007) and to the Minister of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (2006-2007). He was also chair of the Small Business Agency of Ontario. In Opposition, Lalonde served as critic for Francophone Affairs, Interprovincial Trade, Correctional Services, and Tourism and Recreation.
Before his arrival on the provincial political scene, Lalonde was involved in municipal politics for 25 years, 15 of those years as mayor of the Town of Rockland.
Hockey is Lalonde’s passion, a close second only to politics. He was president of the Ottawa and District Hockey Association (1975-76); director of the Association canadienne de hockey amateur (1972-76); co-owner of the Hull Olympiques (1997 Memorial Cup Champions), as well as a local coach for several years.
