Dofasco plant tour

HAMILTON, March 26, 2007 - Minister of Economic Development and Trade Sandra Pupatello visited Dofasco’s Hamilton steel plant to learn more about the company’s operations, regarded as among the most innovative and competitive in the industry.  The visit was also an opportunity to discuss the long-term future of the steel sector, a key component of Ontario’s manufacturing industry.

The material in the foreground is called “dross” – a waste product comprising 95 per cent zinc and 5 per cent iron that is a created during the manufacture of galvanized steel.  The waste material is sent to a recycling facility where the zinc is reclaimed.
